NATO Urges Stronger Deterrence, Praises Turkey Defense Spending
(MENAFN) NATO Deputy Secretary General Radmila Shekerinska has emphasized the importance of strengthening military deterrence to ensure the alliance’s long-term security, while commending Türkiye’s expanding defense investments, according to reports.
Speaking at a panel titled “Embracing Change, Safeguarding Tomorrow: Türkiye & NATO in a Changing Security Landscape” in Brussels, Shekerinska underlined that sustaining security across the alliance requires sustained commitments and enhanced military capabilities.
She said, “It is clear that there are no shortcuts. In order to continue protecting our alliance, we need strong military deterrence, we need a strong defense posture,” according to reports.
She further stressed that increased defense spending is necessary “not just for now, but for years to come,” adding that stronger military capabilities remain the most reliable way to prevent conflict.
The remarks also highlighted Türkiye’s growing role within NATO’s defense framework, reflecting broader efforts to adapt to evolving security challenges, according to reports.
