Dr Louise Burgess is a Lecturer in the School of Allied Health and Exercise Sciences at Bournemouth University. She teaches on the BSc Sport and Exercise Science and MSc Strength and Conditioning courses, including units in Physiology, Neuromuscular Adaptation, Research Methods and Dissertation. She specialises in neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES), with a focus on its application in musculoskeletal rehabilitation and performance.

In 2023, she completed her PhD, Neuromuscular electrical stimulation to improve muscle weakness in hip osteoarthritis: a feasibility study. Her research has also explored the use of NMES across a range of clinical and applied contexts, including healthy ageing, osteoarthritis, joint replacement, intensive care patients with Covid-19, deep vein thrombosis prevention and ankle sprain.
