Afghanistan U-20 Team To Face Turkmenistan In CAFA Championship
The match will be played on Tuesday at 12:00 p.m. Kabul time in the Tajik capital, Dushanbe, where the regional tournament officially began on Sunday.
Afghanistan will also play Uzbekistan and host nation Tajikistan later this week as part of the group-stage fixtures.
The Afghanistan squad departed Kabul on Saturday afternoon for Tajikistan to participate in the competition, which brings together youth national teams from across Central Asia.
The tournament, running until May 20, is being hosted in Dushanbe and features several of the region's emerging football talents competing for the youth championship title.
Afghanistan has increased efforts in recent years to strengthen its youth football programs despite ongoing economic and political challenges in the country.
The CAFA Championship has become an important platform for developing football in Central Asia, with countries including Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan and Afghanistan using the tournament to prepare younger squads for future Asian competitions.
Afghanistan's senior national football team has also participated in several regional and international tournaments in recent years, while the country's youth teams continue to seek greater opportunities for training and competition abroad amid limited domestic sporting infrastructure.
