42 New Historical Sites Discovered In Afghanistan Last Year

(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Information and Culture (MoIC) says that in solar year 1404, 42 new historical sites were discovered across the country, while nearly 2,000 archaeological artifacts were transferred to museums and relevant laboratories and 1,890 other historical items were restored and preserved.

In a post on its X account on Thursday, the ministry said the 42 new historical sites were identified in different provinces, though it did not provide further details on their locations.

According to the ministry, 1,953 archaeological artifacts were transferred last year to the National Museum, the National Laboratory and provincial museums in Logar and Nangarhar.

It added that among these, 291 historical items were recovered from the Mes Aynak site in Logar province, while 142 artifacts were discovered and confiscated from passengers at Kabul airport and subsequently transferred to the National Museum.

The ministry further stated that excavations at the Bala Hisar of Kabul yielded 648 artifacts, including pottery, coins, metal objects and other historical items.

It also said that in 1404, around 1,260 artifacts were cleaned, preserved and restored in Logar, Baghlan, Balkh, Samangan, Takhar, Kunduz, Jawzjan, Sar-I-Pul, and Paktika provinces, while 800 items were restored at the National Museum in Kabul and 630 artifacts were preserved in local museums in Ghazni, Herat and Faryab.
