US Forces Disable Iranian Oil Tankers in Gulf of Oman Blockade

(MENAFN) The US military announced Friday that its forces disabled two additional Iranian-flagged oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman as part of continued efforts to enforce Washington’s maritime blockade targeting vessels linked to Iran.

According to a statement released by US Central Command (CENTCOM), the tankers identified as the M/T Sea Star III and M/T Sevda were intercepted before reaching an Iranian port located along the Gulf of Oman. Reports indicated that both ships were empty when the operation took place.

CENTCOM also noted that another Iranian-flagged vessel had already been disabled earlier this week on Wednesday.

"All three vessels are no longer transiting to Iran," it added.

Adm. Brad Cooper, head of CENTCOM, stated that American military forces stationed in the Middle East “remain committed to full enforcement of the blockade of vessels entering or leaving Iran.”

In a separate statement, CENTCOM said three US Navy destroyers — USS Truxtun (DDG 103), USS Rafael Peralta (DDG 115), and USS Mason (DDG 87) — are currently deployed in the region.

The command further said that US forces have so far redirected 57 commercial ships and disabled four vessels in efforts to stop maritime traffic from entering or departing Iranian ports.
