IIT Madras Expands Deep-Tech Ecosystem With First US Centre In Silicon Valley
The new centre, located in Menlo Park, was launched on April 24 and formally announced during the SelectUSA Investment Summit held at National Harbour in Maryland, reported PTI.
According to IITM Global, Chief Executive Officer, Thirumalai Madhavnarayan, the Menlo Park centre has been established through a partnership with CA Startups and will serve as a strategic base for the foundation's operations in the US.
USD 7.5 Million Investment Planned
The centre will be developed with a planned investment of USD 7.5 million, including a greenfield investment of USD 4.5 million by the foundation.
Located near Silicon Valley, the facility is expected to support Indian deep-tech startups by providing access to global capital, mentorship, partnerships, and international markets.
The centre will focus on deep-tech research, commercialisation, startup incubation, and industry-academia collaboration, while also facilitating venture engagement for scaling innovation-led enterprises.
Plans For Wider US Innovation Presence
The foundation also announced plans to establish a second centre on the US East Coast to further strengthen its presence across major innovation corridors in the country.
Separately, the IIT Madras Global delegation, comprising founders of IIT Madras-incubated deep-tech startups, met Vinay Mohan Kwatra, Ambassador of India to the US during the visit.
Kwatra said the interaction highlighted emerging opportunities in the India-US technology ecosystem and underlined the growing scope for bilateral innovation collaboration.
