China Files Formal Protest Against UK Sanctions

(MENAFN) Beijing lodged a formal diplomatic protest against London on Wednesday over newly imposed British sanctions targeting Chinese entities, accusing the UK of acting outside the bounds of international law.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian made the protest official during a news conference in Beijing, stating that China has "consistently opposed illegal unilateral sanctions without a basis in international law or authorization from the UN Security Council, and expresses strong dissatisfaction with the UK's actions, having lodged a formal protest."

The sanctions in question were announced by the UK on Tuesday, targeting 35 individuals and entities operating in third countries — including Thailand and China — whom London holds responsible for supplying drone components and critical military goods to Russia.

Lin pushed back against the allegations, asserting that Beijing has remained committed to advancing peace negotiations and enforcing strict export controls over dual-use items in connection with the Ukraine conflict. "Normal exchanges and cooperation between China and Russia should not be interfered with or affected," the spokesperson said, warning that China stands ready to take necessary measures to "resolutely safeguard its legitimate rights and interests."
