Israeli Forces Commit Atrocities in West Bank

(MENAFN) Israeli forces detained at least 17 Palestinians, demolished a residential property, and effectively sealed off a West Bank town on Wednesday, as settlers separately reported to have set ablaze agricultural structures in an unrelated incident.

The Palestinian Prisoners Club, a nongovernmental organization, confirmed in a public statement that Israeli forces conducted raids on homes across Nablus, Bethlehem, Hebron, and Ramallah. Among the 17 individuals taken into custody were two women and a child, the group said.

The operations unfolded against a backdrop of sharply escalating violence throughout the West Bank since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza on Oct. 7, 2023. Palestinian officials report that more than 1,000 Palestinians have lost their lives and approximately 22,000 have been detained since hostilities began. The Israeli military offered no immediate response to inquiries regarding Wednesday's operations.

In Turmus Ayya, a town situated northeast of Ramallah, Israeli forces erected earth mounds to block roads and shut down secondary access routes, local officials reported. Town council member Abdullah Awad said the measures left the community of 4,000 residents largely isolated, with schools and essential daily services severely disrupted as a result.

In a separate incident in the village of Kafr ad-Dik, west of Salfit, witnesses reported that Israeli settlers torched two agricultural structures. Settler violence—encompassing arson attacks and land incursions—has climbed steeply over the past year, according to both Palestinian sources and international monitors.

The Palestinian Authority's Commission Against the Wall and Settlements disclosed that Israeli authorities razed 37 inhabited homes and 34 agricultural structures across the West Bank during April alone.

Israel seized control of the West Bank during the 1967 Mideast War. The overwhelming majority of the international community regards the settlements Israel has since established there as either illegal or as significant impediments to a lasting peace. Today, more than 500,000 Israeli settlers reside in the territory alongside approximately 3.4 million Palestinians.
