Jordan Pro League Title Race Heads Into Critical Closing Stage
(MENAFN) According to reports, the CFI Jordan Pro League has entered its 25th week, with only two rounds remaining and the championship battle still wide open. At the top, two teams remain locked in competition for the title, while at the opposite end of the table, Ahli are struggling to avoid finishing near the bottom.
This week’s fixtures include Hussein facing Sama Al Sarhan, Wihdat playing Salt, Faisali meeting Ramtha, Jazira taking on Shabab Urdun, and Ahli competing against Baqa’a. Leading sides are hoping for slip-ups from their rivals to strengthen their chances of securing the title before the final week.
The previous round produced unexpected results, as all three leading teams dropped points. Ahli and Faisali ended their match in a 1–1 draw, Wihdat also drew 1–1 with Jazira, and Hussein failed to take advantage of the situation after drawing with Shabab Urdun. These outcomes extended the title decision to the final stages of the competition. Elsewhere, Salt secured a 3–1 win over Baqa’a to climb into fifth place, while Ramtha defeated Sama Al Sarhan 2–0 to remain in fourth position.
In rescheduled fixtures, Hussein recorded a dominant 4–0 victory over Sama Al Sarhan, after previously suffering a 1–0 loss to Faisali, a result that kept Faisali’s title hopes alive. Earlier in the campaign, Wihdat defeated Faisali 1–0, and Hussein also recorded a 3–1 win in their own matchup. Ramtha, who previously won the league three seasons ago, initially led after a strong opening phase that included a 1–0 win over Wihdat and draws against Hussein and Faisali. However, inconsistent performances in the second round, along with the departure of key striker Mohammad Abu Zureiq to Raja Casablanca, have contributed to their drop to fourth place.
In the Jordan Cup, Hussein advanced to the semi-finals after defeating Jazira 3–1. They were joined by Wihdat, who beat Salt 3–0, Ramtha, who edged past Ahli 1–0, and Faisali, who progressed after a penalty shootout victory over Shabab Urdun (5–4).
At the lower end of the standings, Sama Al Sarhan’s struggles continue, while Ahli are working to avoid finishing in ninth place. The league features ten clubs in its 73rd edition, following a three-stage format. Baqa’a and Sama Al Sarhan joined the top division this season after earning promotion, while Ma’an, Sarih, Aqaba, and Mughayer Sarhan were relegated last year.
So far this season, Hussein have already claimed the Jordan Super Cup by defeating Wihdat on aggregate. Faisali secured the Jordan Football Association Shield for the tenth time, with Salt finishing as runners-up. Last season, Hussein completed a successful campaign by winning both the league and the Super Cup, while Wihdat lifted the Jordan Cup for the 13th time, and Salt achieved their first major trophy by winning the Shield.
Hussein have now won the league for two consecutive seasons, becoming the ninth club in the competition’s history—dating back to 1944—to claim the title. Alongside Ramtha, they have recently disrupted the long-standing dominance traditionally shared between Faisali and Wihdat. Ramtha themselves won the 2021/22 league title, their third overall, ending a 39-year wait, while Hussein secured the 2023/24 and 2024/25 championships.
