Spanish PM Plane Makes Emergency Landing in Türkiye Over Technical Issue

(MENAFN) The aircraft carrying Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez was forced to make an emergency landing in Türkiye due to a technical malfunction while traveling from Madrid to Yerevan, according to reports citing Spain’s state news agency.

As stated by reports, the incident occurred as the official Airbus A310 was en route to Armenia for a European Political Community meeting when it experienced a technical fault, prompting an unscheduled landing in Ankara.

According to general accounts, the issue was described as minor, but standard safety protocols were implemented. The prime minister is expected to remain in Ankara overnight before continuing his journey to Yerevan the following morning.

Reports also noted that this is not the first time Sánchez has faced travel disruptions linked to aircraft technical problems. On a previous occasion, his flight had to return to Madrid mid-route due to a fault, preventing him from attending a Ukraine-related meeting in person.

As stated by reports, in that earlier case, he participated in the meeting virtually after the aircraft was unable to complete its scheduled trip.
