Egypt, Syria Discuss Boosting Bilateral Ties, Reject Israeli Violations

(MENAFN- Daily News Egypt) Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shaibani discussed strengthening bilateral ties and coordinating on regional developments during talks in Cairo, with Egypt reaffirming support for Syria's unity and rejecting Israeli violations of its sovereignty.

In a statement, Egypt's Foreign Ministry said Abdelatty hosted his Syrian counterpart for expanded bilateral discussions attended by senior officials from both sides, including ministers responsible for industry and economy.

Abdelatty stressed the deep historical and cultural ties between Egypt and Syria, noting that Cairo's position on the Syrian crisis since its outbreak has been based on supporting security, stability, and preserving Syria's territorial integrity and state institutions.

He reaffirmed Egypt's support for the legitimate aspirations of the Syrian people, while emphasizing full respect for Syria's sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, and rejecting foreign interference in its internal affairs.

The Egyptian minister also underscored the need to combat terrorism and extremism in all forms, including addressing the issue of foreign fighters, to ensure Syria becomes a source of regional stability.

On regional issues, Abdelatty expressed Egypt's categorical rejection of Israeli violations of Syrian sovereignty, condemning attempts to exploit the current situation to occupy more Syrian territory.

He called on Israel to adhere to the 1974 disengagement agreement and reaffirmed Egypt's longstanding support for ending Israeli occupation of the Syrian Golan Heights.

The talks also covered broader regional developments, including US-Iran negotiations, de-escalation efforts, and the situation in Lebanon.

Abdelatty stressed the importance of coordinated regional and international efforts to prevent wider conflict and reinforce regional security and stability.

The visit comes amid increasing regional diplomatic efforts to reshape Arab relations and address rapidly evolving political and security challenges across the Middle East.
