Google Launches Foundation Work on AI Hub in India

(MENAFN) Google has officially started construction on a major artificial intelligence hub in southern India, marking a significant step in its multi-billion-dollar investment plans in the country.

The foundation-laying ceremony for the project was held on Tuesday in Visakhapatnam, located in India’s Andhra Pradesh state, and was attended by Indian Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw along with other senior government officials.

Speaking at the event, Vaishnaw highlighted the speed at which the project had progressed, saying:
“It's indeed a very significant start that we are doing. What is significant is the very short time frame on which everything has come to this stage today,” Vaishnaw said.

Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian addressed the development through a video message, describing the initiative as part of a broader national vision. He said the AI Hub is a “strategic blueprint designed to fuel the government's Viksit Bharat 2047 vision.”

The Viksit Bharat initiative refers to India’s long-term goal of becoming a fully developed nation by 2047.

Kurian also emphasized the scale of Google’s technological commitment, stating:
“We're deploying a full AI stack to empower every Indian consumer and every enterprise with immense compute power and the tools to lead the world,” said Kurian.

He further added the company’s intention to support long-term development in the country, saying:
“We're committed to investing in the local ecosystem to uplift business and entrepreneurs and advance skills development to create a sustainable future,” he added.
