Profile Articles Activity

Dr. Li is an assistant professor in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences. Her research focuses on wildfire air quality and health impact, atmospheric composition, emission, real-time air quality forecasts, remote sensing, and data assimilation. Dr. Li received a Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science from the University of Maryland - College Park in 2018 and did her postdoctoral work on stochastically perturbed physics tendencies parameter and satellite data assimilation in the GDAS/GFS system. She then continued the atmospheric modeling research at George Mason University and NOAA as a research scientist on wildfire emission and air quality modeling. Dr. Li was the lead developer of the NASA Hazardous Air Quality Ensemble System and GMU daily air quality forecast system. She added several improvements on fire plume rise, fire chemistry, deep convective transport, and lightning data assimilation to WRF-Chem, CMAQ, and HYSPLIT models. Dr. Li collaborates closely with scientists from NOAA, NASA, and NRL.

Dr. Li is a member of the WMO Vegetation Fire and Smoke Pollution Warning Advisory System North America Centre Multi-Model Ensemble Forecasts group, the Fire/Smoke and Arctic group, and the NASA Health and Air Quality Applied Sciences Team. She is a member of AGU GeoHealth Communications and Outreach Committee, and the mentor of the AGU College of Fellows Mentoring Network.
