Israeli Forces Conduct Brief Raid, Checkpoints in Syria’s Quneitra Countryside
(MENAFN) Israeli forces carried out a raid on two locations in Syria’s Quneitra countryside on Saturday, where they temporarily set up checkpoints, searched civilians, and later withdrew, according to reports citing Syrian state media.
One reported incursion involved a unit of three military vehicles advancing along the Al-Kasarat Road in northern Quneitra. Temporary checkpoints were established and individuals passing through the area were searched before the forces pulled back toward a nearby forested region, as stated in reports.
In a separate incident, Israeli forces reportedly entered the village of al-Mashirfa in northern Quneitra, where they again set up a temporary checkpoint, conducted searches of civilians, and subsequently left the area.
No immediate response was issued by Syrian authorities regarding the incursions, which come amid continued tensions and reported cross-border activity in the region.
According to reports, these developments follow recent comments by Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa, who said negotiations with Israel have not collapsed but remain highly difficult due to Israel’s continued presence in Syrian territory.
Military activity in southern Syria has reportedly increased in recent months, with frequent accounts of raids, checkpoint operations, arrests, and searches affecting civilians, including shepherds and minors.
Following the removal of Bashar al-Assad’s government in December 2024, Israel declared the 1974 disengagement agreement void and advanced into the Syrian buffer zone, according to reporting.
Despite the current Syrian administration not issuing direct threats against Israel, reports indicate that Israeli air operations have continued, targeting sites described as military infrastructure and equipment within Syrian territory.
