UK Inflation Climbs to 3.3 Percent in March
(MENAFN) Britain's annual inflation rate climbed to 3.3 percent in March, accelerating from 3 percent in February, as energy costs and transport prices surged to multi-year highs, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said Wednesday.
Energy was the primary driver, with average petrol prices reaching their steepest level since August 2024. Transport costs rose 4.7 percent in the twelve months to March, sharply up from 2.4 percent in February. "The latest annual rate was the highest recorded since December 2022," the ONS said.
Housing and household services inflation inched higher to 4.3 percent in March from 4.2 percent the prior month, while food and non-alcoholic beverage prices rose 3.7 percent, up from 3.3 percent in February.
On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased 0.7 percent in March, more than doubling the 0.3 percent rise recorded in February.
