Iran Launches Drone Strikes on US Vessels after Reported Ship Seizure

(MENAFN) Reports indicate that Iranian forces carried out drone strikes targeting multiple US-linked vessels on Sunday, in what was described as retaliation following the interception of an Iranian cargo ship by American forces in the Gulf of Oman.

According to reports, Iranian media outlets said the escalation began after US forces boarded the container ship TOUSKA. In response, drones were launched toward American vessels, though it was not specified whether the targets were military or commercial.

Iranian authorities had earlier confirmed that the vessel was seized by US forces and warned that retaliation would follow, stating that the action constituted a breach of what they described as a Pakistan-brokered two-week ceasefire that has largely held since April 7.

Iranian military sources also claimed that US forces targeted the ship, disrupted its navigation systems, and boarded it after alleging a ceasefire violation. The vessel was reportedly traveling from Port Klang in Malaysia after departing on April 12.

An Iranian military spokesperson said that US forces fired on the ship before boarding it, according to reports.

The incident was initially announced by US President Donald Trump and later acknowledged by US Central Command, which said American naval forces intercepted the Iranian-flagged cargo vessel after it attempted to break through a US naval blockade in the Gulf of Oman.
