Iran Vows Retaliations After U.S. Takes Control of Iranian Vessel
(MENAFN) Iran announced early Monday that US forces had taken control of an Iranian vessel, warning that a response would come “soon” following what it described as a serious escalation at sea.
Reports from a news agency cited Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, which accused US forces of targeting the ship, disabling its navigation system, and boarding it in what officials called a breach of a ceasefire agreement.
Iranian military spokesperson Ebrahim Zolfaghari said the vessel came under fire before US personnel boarded it.
“The aggressive United States, by violating the ceasefire and engaging in maritime piracy, attacked one of Iran’s vessels after disabling its navigation system,” Zolfaghari said.
He further alleged that US troops deployed “a number of terrorist marines” during the operation before taking control of the ship.
“We warn that Iran’s military forces will soon respond to and retaliate against this armed act of piracy by the US military,” he said.
The incident follows remarks made Sunday by US President Donald Trump, who stated that American forces had intercepted an Iranian-flagged cargo vessel amid what he characterized as an ongoing naval blockade.
Posting on his platform Truth Social, Trump wrote: “Today, an Iranian-flagged cargo ship named TOUSKA…tried to get past our Naval Blockade, and it did not go well for them.”
He added that the ship failed to comply with US warnings, saying a US Navy vessel “stopped them right in their tracks by blowing a hole in the engine room.”
