Zelensky Calls for Cutting Russian Oil Exports Over Sanctions Concerns
(MENAFN) According to reports, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has urged stronger measures to reduce Russia’s oil exports, arguing that loosening restrictions allows Moscow to sustain its military campaign.
He warned that easing sanctions creates a false sense of confidence within Russia’s leadership, encouraging the continuation of the conflict. Zelenskyy noted that more than 110 vessels linked to Russia’s so-called shadow fleet are currently operating at sea.
“On board are over 12 million tons of Russian oil, which, due to the easing of sanctions, can once again be sold without consequences. That is $10 billion – a resource that is directly converted into new strikes against Ukraine,” he said, adding that “every dollar paid for Russian oil is money for the war.”
He stressed the need to block these shipments, stating, “That is why it is important that Russian tankers are stopped, not allowed to deliver oil to ports.”
The Ukrainian leader also highlighted the scale of recent attacks, saying that over the past week Russia has launched thousands of drones, more than a thousand guided bombs, and dozens of missiles of various types targeting Ukraine.
