Spain, Mexico, Brazil Call for US-Cuba Dialogue Amid Humanitarian Concerns

(MENAFN) Spain, Mexico, and Brazil have jointly called on the United States to engage in “a sincere and respectful dialogue” with Cuba, warning about what they describe as a deepening humanitarian crisis on the island.

As stated by reports, the three governments expressed “deep concern regarding the serious humanitarian crisis the Cuban people faces,” urging that “the necessary measures to be taken to alleviate this situation.”

They also cautioned against any actions that could further harm living conditions in Cuba or violate international law, while pledging to strengthen “coordinated humanitarian response aimed at alleviating the suffering of the Cuban people.”

The joint statement emphasized the importance of international legal norms, noting that the countries “reiterate the need to respect at all times international law and the principles of territorial integrity, sovereign equality and the peaceful settlement of disputes,” in line with the UN Charter.

Reaffirming their diplomatic stance, the three nations said they “reaffirm our unwavering commitment to human rights, democratic values and multilateralism,” and called for dialogue conducted “in accordance with international law and the principles of the United Nations Charter.”

They added that any long-term solution should ensure that “it is the Cuban people themselves who decide their future in complete freedom.”
