Six Held In 'Jana Nayagan' Leak Case As Row Deepens Around TVK Chief Vijay's Film

(MENAFN- IANS) Chennai, April 12 (IANS) In a major breakthrough in the illegal leak of actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader C. Joseph Vijay's big-budget film 'Jana Nayagan', the Cyber Crime Wing of Tamil Nadu Police has arrested six individuals in connection with the case.

The arrests were made on Sunday, two days after the highly anticipated film surfaced online, triggering outrage within the film industry and raising serious concerns over digital piracy.

According to police sources, the arrested persons are suspected to be part of a network involved in unlawfully accessing, copying, and circulating the film, which is reportedly made on a staggering budget of Rs 500 crore.

Investigators are now probing whether the leak originated from within the production or post-production chain, or through external hacking methods.

The controversy surrounding 'Jana Nayagan' had already been intensifying even before the leak.

The film's theatrical release has been stalled after the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) raised multiple objections, reportedly related to politically sensitive content and certain scenes deemed contentious.

This delay had heightened anticipation and speculation around the project, making the leak even more damaging.

Following the incident, the production controller representing KVN Productions, which financed the film, lodged a formal complaint with the Cyber Crime Wing.

In the complaint, the company named 21 individuals allegedly involved in the piracy operation and sought stringent legal action against all those responsible.

The production house said that the leak had caused "massive financial losses" and could severely impact the film's commercial prospects.

It also urged authorities to immediately intervene and prevent further circulation of the pirated version across digital platforms.

Police officials confirmed that efforts are underway to identify additional suspects and dismantle the wider network behind the leak.

Authorities are also in touch with social media companies and digital intermediaries, directing them to take down links and block the sharing of the illegal copy.

The incident has reignited debate over piracy in the Tamil film industry, particularly at a time when high-budget movie productions are increasingly vulnerable to digital breaches.

With 'Jana Nayagan' already mired in certification controversies, the leak has added another layer of crisis for its makers, even as fans await clarity on its eventual release.
