'Killers Go Unpunished': Transgender Community Demands Protection In Peshawar

(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) In Peshawar, according to transgender community guru Farzana, around 120 transgender individuals have been killed since 2015.

She said the most painful aspect is that although the police arrest suspects, no perpetrator has truly received the punishment that a murderer deserves.

According to Farzana, this is the reason why those involved in such crimes have become more emboldened. They now feel that no effective action will be taken against them, which is why they kill members of their community without fear.

Speaking to TNN, Farzana said that about five days ago, another member of their community, Sara, was brutally murdered between Parvez and Iqbal Plaza, resulting in her death.

Regarding this case, the police stated that Sara's killers have been arrested. While they acknowledge the police effort, it is unfortunate that no accused has so far received the punishment they deserve.

Guru Farzana further said that the provincial government has never taken the transgender community seriously. According to her, transgender individuals are also part of this society, and until they are taken seriously and given their rights, such killings will continue.

She added that due to the rising number of incidents, the transgender community is living in severe insecurity.

“Earlier, such incidents used to happen occasionally, but now the situation is that these cases are becoming routine. Instead of decreasing, they are increasing day by day, which is extremely alarming and a matter of serious concern for our community.”
