FM, Acting UNRWA Head Discuss Future Cooperation
(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency)
Amman, April 9 (Petra) – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi on Thursday received the Acting Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Christian Saunders.
During the meeting held at the Foreign Ministry's headquarters, Safadi emphasized UNRWA's "vital" humanitarian role in Gaza, which continues to face a humanitarian catastrophe due to the destruction caused by the Israeli aggression.
Safadi also called for ensuring UNRWA's continued operations, which play an "indispensable and irreplaceable" role in providing its essential services to Palestinian refugees, in accordance with its UN mandate, across its five areas of jurisdiction.
Safadi said Israel should halt its "systematic" campaign targeting UNRWA and its presence by imposing illegal restrictions on the agency and impeding its "important and vital" role in the occupied Palestinian territories.
Affirming the Kingdom's continued support for the agency, he expressed his aspiration to working with Saunders to build upon the "established" partnership between the Kingdom and UNRWA.
