Rajasthan Police Arrest Mastermind In Rs 12.69 Crore Fraud
The accused is believed to have duped over 200 individuals of approximately Rs 12.69 crore. The Enforcement Directorate had also been actively searching for him.
Amit Gautam, son of Subhash Gautam and a resident of Shastri Nagar, Dholpur, had been evading arrest after orchestrating a widespread fraud network across Dholpur, Jaipur, and Udaipur.
He was apprehended in Lajpat Nagar, Delhi.
A reward of Rs 40,000 had been declared by the Inspector General of the Bharatpur Range, along with an additional Rs 3,000 by the Jaipur West Police. The operation was carried out under the guidance of IG, Bharatpur Range, Kailash Chand Bishnoi, and led by Dholpur SP Vikas Sangwan, following directives from Police Headquarters.
A special team was constituted under Additional SP Vaibhav Sharma and Circle Officer Krishnaraj Jangid.
The team included Nihalganj SHO Amit Sharma, SI Harendra Singh, Cyber Cell In-charge Narendra Singh, and other personnel. Gautam, who holds an M.Pharm degree from Udaipur, leveraged his background to gain credibility in the medical sector.
Along with his associate Arun Agarwal, he floated seven bogus companies, including Vaibhav Enterprises and Rootwise Logistics. To create an illusion of wealth and success, he flaunted luxury cars, expensive watches, and high-end smartphones. His targets were primarily doctors, engineers, and prominent businessmen.
He lured victims with promises of doubling their investments in a short period, often under the pretext of land deals.
When victims lacked funds, Gautam would personally accompany them to banks and secure large loans, sometimes visiting multiple branches simultaneously to ensure the investments went through.
For six months, the Dholpur Cyber Cell tracked Gautam's movements across Jaipur, Udaipur, and Delhi. Constable Harvendra Singh played a key role in gathering intelligence and conducting surveillance. The accused had been hiding in Delhi, where he was running a medical store and a diagnostic lab.
To confirm his identity, police adopted a covert approach, posing as patients and even submitting blood samples at the lab. Despite wearing a doctor's coat and face mask to conceal his identity, Gautam was eventually identified and arrested from Block C, Lajpat Nagar.
Around 20 serious cases are registered against Gautam across Rajasthan. These include nearly 15 cases of multi-crore fraud at Chitrakoot and Mansarovar police stations in Jaipur; two major cases involving Rs 6.57 crore and Rs 62.50 lakh at Bhupalpura police station in Udaipur; and several cases at Nihalganj police station in Dholpur.
The Enforcement Directorate, Jaipur, had also registered a case against him and was actively pursuing the investigation.
The arresting team included SHO Amit Sharma, SI Harendra Singh, Head Constable Narendra Singh, Constable Harvendra Singh (who played a key role), Constable Dinesh, and Constable Nilendra.
