Japan, Oman Reaffirm Close Coordination Amid Middle East Tensions
(MENAFN) Japan and Oman have reaffirmed their commitment to maintain close coordination following a phone conversation between their foreign ministers, according to reports on Thursday.
Japan’s Toshimitsu Motegi and Oman’s Badr bin Hamad al-Busaidi exchanged views on the evolving situation in the Middle East, confirming continued cooperation between their countries.
The discussion was highlighted in a brief statement shared on US social media platform X.
Motegi noted that the call followed an earlier discussion last month, reflecting ongoing diplomatic engagement. He added that both nations would sustain close communication to help ease regional tensions, with particular focus on safeguarding navigation through the strategically crucial Strait of Hormuz, a key global energy transit route.
Reports indicated that the day before, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi also spoke by phone about developments following a ceasefire with the US.
Japan, which imports nearly all of its crude oil, sources over 90% from the Middle East, making it especially vulnerable to disruptions in Gulf energy shipments.
