Israeli Forces Fatally Shoot Palestinian Man in West Bank

(MENAFN) The Palestinian Ministry of Health confirmed Thursday that a 28-year-old Palestinian man was fatally shot by Israeli army fire in the occupied West Bank, with Israeli authorities retaining custody of his body.

Alaa Khaled Mohammed Sbeih was killed late Wednesday near the village of Tayasir, east of Tubas, according to a ministry statement. His body remains in Israeli custody.

Local witnesses described a sequence of violence preceding the shooting — villagers had mobilized to repel an assault by settler groups when Israeli forces subsequently raided the village, opening fire on Sbeih and blocking emergency medical crews from reaching him.

The Israeli army issued no official comment on the incident. An Israeli radio staion, however, reported that Sbeih had struck a settler in the head with a rock, inflicting serious injuries, adding that the settler was transported to hospital for treatment.

The killing comes amid a protracted surge in violence across the West Bank, running parallel to Israel's ongoing military campaign in Gaza. Palestinian health authorities report that more than 1,080 Palestinians have been killed across the West Bank since October 7, 2023 — a toll that underscores the deepening humanitarian crisis gripping the territory.

No independent verification of either account has been issued, and the circumstances surrounding the shooting remain disputed.
