Israeli Man Gets Arrested for Spying for Iran, Planning Assassination
(MENAFN) Israeli authorities announced on Thursday that a 22-year-old man has been taken into custody on suspicions of spying for Iran and preparing explosives to target a “high-profile figure.”
According to a joint statement by the Israeli Police and the national security agency, Ami Gaidrov was apprehended in March in Haifa amid allegations that he had been in contact with an Iranian operative since August 2025 and had carried out several assignments in return for significant payments.
The statement claimed that Gaidrov had reportedly agreed to create explosives intended for a “high-profile figure,” though officials did not disclose the intended target.
Investigators also noted that Gaidrov recorded his actions with photographs and videos, which he sent to his handler as proof of completing the tasks.
During his communications with the Iranian agent, he allegedly shared information with acquaintances and assisted them in obtaining raw materials for explosives. This collaboration reportedly led to the questioning of other Israeli citizens.
The probe revealed that these associates helped in acquiring explosive materials, storing them, and even conducting a test to evaluate their effectiveness, authorities added.
Police indicated that Gaidrov received instructions amid the conflict with Iran to provide imagery of Haifa port and missile launch sites in northern Israel. He is said to have received more than 70,000 shekels (roughly $22,600) via digital wallets for carrying out these activities.
