Australian PM Says US-Iran Ceasefire Must Include Lebanon

(MENAFN) Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese emphasized on Thursday that the ceasefire between the US and Iran should also encompass Lebanon, as Israeli attacks continue to claim lives.

Albanese stated at a news briefing that the Australian government “firmly believes” the ceasefire between the US and Iran should cover Lebanon.

The inclusion of Lebanon in the ceasefire remains a matter of disagreement. Pakistan, which mediated the arrangement, indicated that the two-week pause would apply to Lebanon, whereas Israel and the US maintained that the country was not part of the agreement.

Albanese added, “We want to see peace in this region, and it will make a difference. I know that many Australians are concerned about the events occurring in Lebanon.

“This is not just about the impact there, but the effect it is having around the world.”

Reports state that Israeli airstrikes killed at least 254 people in Lebanon on Wednesday, with additional attacks early Thursday claiming at least 17 more lives in the southern part of the country.
