Fresh Israeli Strikes Leave Seventeen Dead in Southern Lebanon

(MENAFN) At least 17 people have been killed and several more wounded following a wave of Israeli airstrikes across southern Lebanon, Lebanon's National News Agency (NNA) reported Thursday.

A strike targeting a residential building in the town of Zrariyeh claimed more than 10 lives, among them women and children, according to NNA. In a separate earlier attack, an Israeli air raid on the town of Abbassiyeh left at least seven people dead and others wounded, though the agency cautioned those figures are still preliminary.

Israeli warplanes also carried out successive strikes across multiple towns, NNA reported, hitting Kafra, Jmaijmeh, Safad al-Battikh, Majdal Selm, Deir Antar, and areas in the vicinity of the Qasmiyeh bridge. Artillery shelling was simultaneously directed at the town of Haris, the agency added.

The latest violence follows a particularly devastating 24-hour period: on Wednesday alone, at least 254 people were killed and 1,165 others wounded in Israeli assaults across Lebanon, including the capital Beirut, according to the Lebanese Civil Defense.

The attacks unfolded despite a ceasefire agreement between Washington and Tehran announced the same day, raising urgent questions over the accord's reach and durability.

The cumulative toll continues to mount. The Lebanese Health Ministry confirmed the overall death count from Israeli strikes on Lebanon since March 2 has climbed to 1,739, with a further 5,873 people injured.
