Turkish, US Presidents Confer on Iran Truce, Middle East Tensions
(MENAFN) Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan spoke with US President Donald Trump on Wednesday to discuss the recently announced ceasefire with Iran and wider developments in the Middle East, according to reports.
In the call, the leaders reviewed the latest regional situation, with particular focus on the truce declared Tuesday night.
Erdogan expressed satisfaction with the ceasefire, highlighting that the two-week window following a challenging 40-day period provides an important opportunity to move toward a permanent peace agreement. He emphasized the need to use this period effectively and cautioned against any actions that could jeopardize the process.
The Turkish president also stressed that Türkiye would continue to enhance its support for diplomatic initiatives undertaken with allied and friendly nations, especially Pakistan, aimed at achieving a resolution.
Trump had announced the two-week ceasefire on Tuesday, stating that Tehran presented a “workable” 10-point proposal for negotiations. According to reports, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council said the proposal delivered through Pakistani mediation includes key US commitments on non-aggression, continued Iranian control over the Strait of Hormuz, approval of uranium enrichment, and the lifting of primary and secondary sanctions.
