Erdogan Tells Putin Ankara Opposes Attacks on Iran

(MENAFN) Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan told Russian President Vladimir Putin in a phone call that Türkiye does not support attacks on Iran and likewise does not condone Iran’s retaliatory strikes on neighboring countries, according to diplomatic sources.

The conversation covered both bilateral ties and wider regional and global issues. Regarding the US-Israeli conflict with Iran, Erdogan emphasized that “peace- and stability-focused contacts with all parties continue to prevent the conflict from spiraling further.”

He also cautioned that assaults on civilian vessels in the Black Sea threaten regional stability, noting that the situation in Iran should not become a new flashpoint in the Russia-Ukraine crisis.

Erdogan added that he is closely following developments in Syria, saying that measures to strengthen stability there align with the shared interests of Türkiye and Russia and must not compromise the progress already achieved.

The Turkish president further criticized the policies of the Israeli government under Prime Minister Netanyahu, asserting that aggressive actions must be countered and warning that any moves undermining the status of Jerusalem cannot be permitted.
