'Bring Them Home': Protesters Demand Return Of Stranded Pakistani Drivers From Afghanistan

(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) In Landi Kotal, a tehsil of Khyber district, transporters and drivers staged a protest on the Pak-Afghan Highway (Torkham Road), taking out a rally and demanding the immediate return of Pakistani drivers and vehicles stranded in Afghanistan for the past six months.

The protesters stated that due to the closure of the Pak-Afghan border, more than 1,500 Pakistani vehicles and around 2,000 drivers are stuck in Afghanistan, facing severe difficulties.

They added that the stranded drivers have run out of money for daily expenses and many are forced to live in extremely poor conditions. Most of them are suffering from illnesses, while their families are under intense mental stress and anxiety.

The transporters urged the authorities of both Pakistan and Afghanistan to take immediate humanitarian action and allow the stranded drivers and their vehicles to return home through the Torkham border.

They warned that if the issue is not resolved within a week, transporters in Landi Kotal will expand their protest and may block the Pak-Afghan Highway, and also stop vehicles of Afghan families traveling to Afghanistan.

The protesters appealed to both countries to resolve the issue through negotiations and provide immediate relief to the affected individuals.

The protest rally was led by transporters' leaders Rahman Zeb Afridi, Bakhtiar Malagori, Muhammad Shah Afridi, Abdullah, and Safeerullah Shinwari.
