Bahrain Says It Detains Three Suspected of Hezbollah-Tied Terror Plot
(MENAFN) Bahrain’s Interior Ministry announced on Monday the arrest of three individuals accused of forming a “terrorist cell” connected to Lebanon’s Hezbollah group.
According to the ministry, “The suspects coordinated with terrorist elements abroad and sought to engage in espionage with them in a manner intended to undermine the sovereignty of the state, spread fear and panic among citizens and residents, and risk the security and safety of the country.”
The arrested individuals are identified as Ahmed Ahmed Hussain Madan, 24; Hassan Abdulameer Ashoor, 22; and Muntadhar Abdulmohsen Ali Madan, 29, according to reports.
Statements obtained during the investigation indicate that the suspects received weapons training during trips to Lebanon after meeting with Hezbollah members.
Authorities said the group also sent photos and information relating to Iranian actions against Bahrain amid the ongoing US-Israeli campaign against Iran. The ministry further accused the trio of raising funds under the pretense of charitable activities and transferring the money to support Hezbollah’s operations in Lebanon, in preparation for carrying out terrorist acts in Bahrain under the direction of the group’s leadership.
The General Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Science confirmed that all legal procedures have been completed and that the suspects have been referred to the public prosecution.
