ICE Agents Likely to Remain at Airports

(MENAFN) Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) personnel stationed at US airports might continue their presence even after Transportation Security Administration (TSA) employees receive their overdue wages this week.

White House Border Czar Tom Homan informed CNN on Sunday that the sustained deployment of ICE agents at airports is contingent upon TSA staff returning to duty. He emphasized that ICE is maintaining elevated security measures in response to a heightened threat environment.

Homan also mentioned that he is coordinating closely with both the TSA administrator and the ICE director to evaluate the unique requirements of each airport.

On Friday, President Donald Trump signed an executive order allocating existing funds to cover TSA salaries, with disbursements anticipated as early as Monday or Tuesday.

The standoff over funding has already resulted in long security lines at major airports due to personnel shortages. Meanwhile, Democrats in the House and Senate continue to block comprehensive funding legislation, likely prolonging the dispute and causing further travel delays.

As the partial government shutdown reached its 45th day on Monday, negotiations to end it remained stalled, marking it as the longest in US history.

Congressional Democrats are pushing for substantial reforms to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP). President Trump, however, insists that any funding agreement must include the SAVE America Act, initially introduced in January 2025, which mandates proof of US citizenship for federal voter registration.
