Prabowo Pays Courtesy Call On Japan's Emperor Naruhito
According to Indonesia's Presidential Secretariat (BPMI Setpres), Prabowo was received by Emperor Naruhito upon arrival, before both leaders proceeded to a photo session and a closed-door meeting at the palace.
“During the meeting, President Prabowo and Emperor Naruhito discussed a number of strategic issues of mutual interest to both countries.
“In addition, the discussion was interspersed with light exchanges that reflected the personal rapport between the two leaders,” it said in a statement, on Monday.
Prabowo was accompanied by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Foreign Minister Sugiono and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
BPMI Setpres said Prabowo also met Japan's Crown Prince Fumihito, the younger brother of Emperor Naruhito, in a meeting expected to further strengthen bilateral ties.
Following the engagements, Prabowo joined Emperor Naruhito and Crown Prince Fumihito at a state luncheon at the Imperial Palace, it added.
BPMI Setpres said the engagements underscored not only formal diplomatic relations but also the growing personal rapport between the leaders, signalling stronger and more strategic Indonesia–Japan ties going forward.
