Lebanon Death Toll Reaches 1,238 Since March 2

(MENAFN) At least 49 people were killed and 116 others wounded in a single day on Sunday, pushing Lebanon's cumulative death toll to 1,238 and the total number of injured to 3,543 since hostilities sharply escalated on March 2, according to Lebanon's Disaster Risk Management Unit at the prime minister's office.

The unit's daily situation report painted a grim picture of a country buckling under the weight of relentless conflict. Hostile incidents have now reached 4,401 in total, while 663 shelters operating nationwide are currently housing 136,147 displaced individuals — representing 35,170 families uprooted by the violence. Authorities stressed they are continuing to monitor the humanitarian situation and coordinate with relevant agencies as both displacement and casualty figures keep rising.

On the ground, Israeli warplanes pressed forward with airstrikes targeting multiple areas across southern Lebanon. The Israeli army simultaneously issued a stark warning to civilians, threatening to strike the Dahieh area and calling on residents to immediately evacuate Beirut's southern suburbs.

The current wave of violence traces back to March 2, when Hezbollah fired rockets into Israel for the first time since a ceasefire brokered on Nov. 27, 2024 — a move that triggered a fierce and sustained Israeli aerial campaign across southern and eastern Lebanon, shattering a fragile period of calm and plunging the region back into crisis.
