UAE, Ukraine Agree to Strengthen Security, Defense Cooperation

(MENAFN) The presidents of Ukraine and the United Arab Emirates agreed on Saturday to enhance bilateral cooperation, with a focus on security and defense.

The announcement followed a meeting in Abu Dhabi between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Ukraine stated that the efforts of Ukrainian military experts in the UAE to counter Iranian drones were particularly appreciated.

The leaders also discussed regional security issues, including the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz and its effects on global oil markets. Both sides explored “possible steps” to address ongoing challenges and agreed to expand cooperation in security and defense, finalizing details of relevant agreements.

The UAE emphasized its commitment to defending national sovereignty, while both countries reaffirmed their shared objectives under the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement.

Zelenskyy’s visit to the UAE comes shortly after Ukraine signed a defense cooperation deal with Saudi Arabia ahead of talks with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Jeddah.
