Israeli Strikes in Southern Lebanon Kill Nine People
(MENAFN) Israeli warplanes unleashed a fresh wave of airstrikes across southern Lebanon on Sunday, killing at least nine people and wounding several others in back-to-back strikes that struck two towns in the Tyre district, according to the country's state news agency.
The deadliest of the two attacks hit the town of Hanniyeh, where seven people were killed and an unspecified number of others sustained injuries, Lebanese media reported. A second, near-simultaneous strike on the nearby town of Jwaya claimed two additional lives and left three others wounded, media added.
Sunday's bloodshed marks the latest chapter in an intensifying Israeli military campaign that has battered southern Lebanon with relentless airstrikes and a ground offensive launched following a cross-border attack carried out by Hezbollah on March 2.
The human cost of the conflict continues to mount at an alarming pace. On Friday evening, the Lebanese Health Ministry confirmed that the cumulative death toll from Israeli military operations had climbed to 1,142, with a further 3,315 people wounded — figures that underscore the devastating scale of a campaign now stretching across weeks of sustained bombardment.
International pressure to halt the violence has so far yielded little, as civilian casualties continue to rise and southern Lebanese communities bear the brunt of one of the region's most intense military escalations in recent years.
