Trump Floats Cuba as Next US Military Target After Iran

(MENAFN) President Donald Trump sent shockwaves through diplomatic circles Friday, openly floating Cuba as a potential future target of American military action — then immediately urging the press to ignore his own remarks.

Speaking at the Future Investment Initiative, a high-profile Saudi business conference, Trump pointed to what he characterized as the success of recent U.S. military operations in Venezuela and Iran before turning his sights to the Caribbean nation.

"I built this great military. I said, 'You'll never have to use it,' but sometimes you have to use it. And Cuba is next, by the way," Trump declared to the assembled audience of global investors and business leaders.

The comment was startling enough — but what followed was equally remarkable. Appearing to catch himself, Trump pivoted almost immediately, appealing directly to journalists in the room to bury the statement entirely.

"But pretend I didn't say that. Please, pretend I didn't. Please, please, please, media, please disregard that statement," he added.

The remarks are unlikely to be quietly shelved. Coming on the heels of escalating U.S. military engagement in the region, Trump's Cuba comments — however hastily walked back — are already drawing intense scrutiny from foreign policy analysts and regional governments watching Washington's next move closely.
