Pro-Palestine Protests Sweep Europe

(MENAFN) Mass demonstrations swept across Europe on Saturday, with hundreds of thousands taking to the streets in coordinated shows of solidarity with Palestinians and mounting opposition to military escalation in the Middle East.

London witnessed the continent's largest single gathering, with the Palestine Solidarity Campaign declaring on X that "Over half a million people" marched together for Palestine and against the far right. The march drew a broad coalition of advocacy groups, including the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament and the Stop the War Coalition, with protesters directing their anger at Israeli strikes on Lebanon, the US-Israeli war on Iran, and what demonstrators described as rising Islamophobia. Crowds flooded central London carrying banners emblazoned with "Freedom for Palestine," "Stop Bombing Iran," and "Stop Arming Israel."

Across the Channel, demonstrations erupted simultaneously in multiple French cities, mobilized by a joint call from approximately 90 organizations. Association France Palestine Solidarite outlined the movement's demands in a post on X, stating: "In every region of France we are demonstrating for: self-determination of the Palestinian people and the right of return for Palestinian refugees; an end to occupation, colonization and apartheid; sanctions against Israel; a permanent ceasefire; and an end to the genocide."

Thousands converged on the French capital Paris, while the western city of Angers saw close to 1,000 demonstrators turn out, according to regional daily Ouest-France.

In Stockholm, protesters gathered in Sweden's capital to demand a free Palestine and call for an end to what demonstrators characterized as an ongoing Israeli genocide.

Vienna also saw crowds mobilize, with Platform Palestine Solidarity Austria organizing a rally "to stop Zionist and US aggression" in direct response to ongoing US-Israeli military action against Iran.

In the Netherlands, several hundred demonstrators assembled in The Hague to register their opposition to the Iran conflict. The protest, organized by the New Peace Movement, urged the Dutch government to pursue active de-escalation efforts and press both Israel and the United States to immediately cease hostilities, media reported.
