Israeli Soldier Killed, Three Others Wounded in Lebanon Combat

(MENAFN) The Israeli army announced Sunday that one soldier was killed and three others wounded during combat operations in southern Lebanon, marking the latest military casualties in an offensive that has gripped the region for weeks.

Sergeant Moshe Yitzhak Hacohen Katz of the Paratroopers Brigade was identified by the military as the fallen soldier in an official statement, as the army mourned yet another loss on an increasingly deadly front.

Three additional soldiers sustained moderate injuries during the same engagement and were swiftly evacuated to a medical facility for treatment, according to the military statement. The Israeli army offered no further elaboration on the specific circumstances surrounding the incident.

The casualties come as Israel continues to pound Lebanon with sustained airstrikes while pressing forward with a ground offensive in the country's south — a campaign launched following a cross-border attack carried out by Hezbollah on March 2.

The human toll on both sides continues to mount at an alarming rate. Lebanon's Health Ministry announced Friday evening that deaths from Israeli strikes had climbed to 1,142, with a further 3,315 people wounded — figures that rights groups warn are likely to rise as fighting intensifies across the south.

With no ceasefire negotiations publicly underway, military analysts caution that ground engagements of this nature are expected to accelerate as Israeli forces push deeper into Hezbollah-held territory.
