Ambassador Of Sri Lanka To Thailand Attends“GI Thailand: The Way Of The Land, Preserving Local Heritage For Global Recognition”
Under the gracious patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya, the event gathered a distinguished audience comprising members of the diplomatic corps, senior government officials, and representatives from diverse sectors, including the Minister of Commerce, Suphajee Suthumpun, and the Permanent Secretary of Commerce, Vuttikrai Leewiraphan.
The programme highlighted the importance of Geographical Indications (GI) in preserving local heritage, promoting sustainable development, and enhancing the global recognition of unique regional products. The exhibition showcased a diverse range of Thai GI-certified products, while interactive craft workshops provided insights into traditional knowledge and craftsmanship. The evening concluded with a reception featuring refreshments prepared using authentic Thai GI ingredients.
The participation of Sri Lanka's Ambassador reflected the country's continued interest in strengthening cooperation with Thailand in the field of intellectual property, particularly in promoting and protecting Geographical Indications. Sri Lanka, with its rich heritage of world-renowned GI products such as Ceylon Tea, cinnamon, and other region-specific specialties, recognises the importance of GI as a valuable tool for rural development and cultural preservation.
