Chinese Military to Hold Talks with EU, NATO in Brussels
(MENAFN) A delegation from China’s military is expected to hold discussions with representatives of the European Union and NATO in Brussels next week, according to a media report, amid rising tensions in the Middle East.
The EU–China security and defense consultations are scheduled for Tuesday, as reported by the South China Morning Post.
The report also indicated that separate meetings between NATO officials and representatives from the Office for International Military Cooperation of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) are set to take place during the same week.
So far, neither side has issued an official confirmation regarding these planned discussions.
These military talks come at a time of heightened regional instability following joint US and Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28, which Tehran claims resulted in approximately 1,300 deaths, including Iran’s then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and senior security official Ali Larijani.
In response, Iran has carried out drone and missile attacks across the region and has effectively restricted operations in the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial global shipping route that handles around 20 million barrels of oil per day and approximately 20% of the world’s liquefied natural gas trade, contributing to disruptions in global energy markets.
