China Praises Türkiye, S. Arabia, Qatar’s Role in Pakistan Truce
(MENAFN) China on Thursday expressed appreciation for the role played by Türkiye, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar in facilitating the ceasefire between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Welcoming the ceasefire announced by Islamabad and Kabul, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said that Beijing hopes both countries will remain calm, exercise restraint, restart peace negotiations as soon as possible, achieve a comprehensive and durable ceasefire at an early stage, address their differences through dialogue, and work together to maintain peace and stability in the region.
He also noted that China acknowledges the contributions of relevant Islamic countries, referring to the involvement of Ankara, Riyadh, and Doha in helping bring about the ceasefire.
Lin added that China has been engaging with both sides through its own diplomatic channels and remains prepared to continue playing a constructive role in supporting efforts toward resolution.
Pakistan announced on Wednesday that it had temporarily suspended its military operations in Afghanistan in observance of the Eid holiday, following requests from Türkiye, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar.
Shortly afterward, Afghan government spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid also confirmed a temporary halt to operations ahead of Eid al-Fitr, citing goodwill and similar requests from Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and Qatar.
Relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan have deteriorated in recent weeks as border tensions escalated, resulting in casualties and damage to property.
