Friedrich Merz Stresses Diplomacy to End Iran Conflict Quickly
(MENAFN) German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has urged a rapid diplomatic resolution to the ongoing conflict with Iran, warning that the war inflicts harm on all parties involved, including the United States.
Addressing the Bundestag, Germany’s lower house of parliament, Merz said that many questions about the conflict remain unresolved and that there is no clear or convincing plan for achieving military success. He noted that Washington had not consulted Berlin prior to carrying out strikes, adding that “had Germany been consulted, it would have advised against the operation.”
Merz reiterated that as long as hostilities continue, Germany will refrain from using military measures to secure freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. He stressed that Europe has a vested interest in bringing the conflict to a swift conclusion.
