Israel Announces Elimination Of Senior Iranian Official And Commander Of Basij Unit

According to Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz, Ali Larijani, secretary of Iran's National Security Council, was killed in Iran last night, March 16, as a result of an Israeli airstrike.

The Israel Defense Forces confirmed that Larijani was their target. They added that Gholamreza Soleimani, commander of the Basij paramilitary force, was killed in a separate strike.

“Larijani and the Basij commander were eliminated overnight and joined the head of the annihilation program, Khamenei, and all the eliminated members of the axis of evil, in the depths of hell,” Katz said.

It is reported that Larijani was attacked at night in Tehran. Soleimani was killed while at a tent camp recently set up by the Basij. The strike also killed the deputy commander of the Basij and other high-ranking officers of this paramilitary force, according to the IDF.

The Basij is known for its role in the brutal suppression of anti-government protests in Iran that took place late last year and is believed to be responsible for a large number of deaths among Iranian civilians.
