Oil Slicks Discovered In Sea Near Two Beaches In Odesa

It is noted that inspectors collected seawater samples for analysis.

“Test results showed a concentration of fats and oils at 49.8 mg/dm3, confirming the presence of contamination,” the environmental inspection agency stated.

Given the nature of the stains and the extent of their spread, a probable link has been preliminarily established with the incident on December 20, 2025, when sunflower oil entered the Adzhalytskyi Estuary as a result of an enemy attack on port infrastructure facilities. Its further spread could have affected part of the Black Sea basin.

As reported by Ukrinform, oily slicks were detected in the Black Sea waters within the Odesa region-a spill of sunflower oil occurred as a result of enemy attacks on port infrastructure in December 2025. Dead birds were found near the Dolphin and Lanzheron beaches in Odesa.

According to environmentalists' estimates, more than 1,000 birds died as a result of the oil spill in the Odesa Gulf.
