Recent evacuation efforts that helped stranded residents return to the UAE have highlighted the support framework available to long-term residents overseas, particularly Golden Visa holders.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) and the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) recently coordinated the return of around 500 Golden Visa holders and residents affected by regional developments that disrupted flights and led to airspace closures.

The initiative has spotlighted the UAE's expanded consular services for Golden Visa holders abroad, introduced to provide additional support during emergencies and crises.

    Confidence in long-term residency

As reported by Khaleej Times, interest in the UAE's Golden Visa remains steady despite regional tensions, with visa consultants and service centres reporting continued enquiries from professionals and investors seeking long-term residency.

Industry representatives say applicants continue to pursue long-term status in the country, which they interpret as a reflection of sustained confidence in the UAE's stability and economic outlook.

Consular services for Golden Visa holders

In October 2025, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs launched a dedicated suite of consular services specifically designed for Golden Visa holders, an initiative described as the first of its kind globally.

Authorities expanded the scope of emergency and crisis response services - previously available only to UAE nationals - to include Golden Visa holders.

The services aim to enhance the level of support and care available to Golden Visa holders while they are abroad.

Under the programme, Golden Visa holders can access:

Electronic Return Documents if their passport is lost or damaged while overseas

A dedicated hotline for direct communication with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

24/7 emergency and crisis assistance, including during evacuation operations.

Consular services may also extend to family members, such as spouses and children, provided they are officially registered as dependents and hold valid residence permits.

    How the Return Document works

One of the key services allows Golden Visa holders abroad to obtain a Return Document if their passport is lost or damaged.

Applicants can apply through MoFA's website or smart application using their UAE Pass digital identity.

To request the document, applicants must upload:

A copy of the lost passport report

      Golden Visa details

A recent personal photograph with a white background.

According to MoFA, the document is typically issued within around 30 minutes.

    The Return Document is:

      Free of charge

Valid for a single entry to the UAE

Valid for seven days from the date of issuance

It is intended solely for travel back to the UAE and cannot be used for travel to or transit through other countries. Once the individual returns to the UAE, they must renew their travel documents within the country.

Golden Visa holders can contact MoFA's 24/7 call centre at +971 2 493 1133 from outside the UAE for assistance.
