US Strikes Kharg Island Iran Says Missile Attacks Doubled
Iran, meanwhile, has reported that over the past 48 hours, its missile attacks on American and Israeli targets have doubled.
Kharg Island, located in the Persian Gulf near the Strait of Hormuz, is Iran's main oil export hub and a strategically significant location. With its large oil terminals, the island plays a key role in controlling oil routes and maritime traffic, giving it immense economic importance for Iran.
According to Reuters, Donald Trump announced that the U.S. had destroyed“military targets” on Kharg Island.
He warned that if Iran continues attacks that have disrupted most shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, the United States will target Iran's oil infrastructure. He further claimed that the U.S. military had“completely destroyed all military targets” on the island.
Iran's Fars News Agency also confirmed the strikes in a post on X, reporting that more than 15 explosions were heard on Kharg Island. The report noted:“Field observations indicate that thick smoke has been rising from the island.”
Ebrahim Zolfaqari, spokesperson for Iran's Khatam al-Anbiya Air Defense Headquarters, responded to Trump's remarks, stating:“If Iran's oil, economic, and energy infrastructure is attacked, all oil and economic infrastructure belonging to companies cooperating with the United States or with American shareholders across the region will be destroyed.”
Meanwhile, Seyed Majid Mousavi, commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Aerospace Force, posted on X that Iran's missile attacks on American and Israeli targets have doubled over the past 48 hours.
