Rahm Aims To Bridge Ranking Gap As LIV Golf Heads To Singapore

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The global golf schedule continues at a rapid pace this week, with LIV Golf heading to Singapore for the fourth event of its season, while the PGA Tour hosts its flagship tournament, The Players Championship, at TPC Sawgrass in Florida.

LIV Golf moves from Hong Kong to Sentosa Golf Club following a dominant performance by Jon Rahm last week. The Spaniard looked in control throughout the tournament as he secured an impressive victory and earned 23 Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) points.

However, compared to the PGA Tour, the gap in ranking opportunities remains significant. The winner on the PGA Tour last week earned over 69 OWGR points, highlighting the challenge LIV players face when attempting to climb the world rankings.

The former World Number One currently sits in 54th place in the OWGR, having finished the 2025 season ranked 84th. Without structural changes to the ranking system, the path back toward the top will remain a demanding one for Rahm and his fellow LIV competitors.

In the LIV Golf team standings, Ripper GC currently lead with 65.75 points, ahead of 4Aces GC on 48 points and Legion XIII in third place with 30.75 points.

Meanwhile, attention on the PGA Tour turns to Florida and one of the most prestigious tournaments in professional golf - The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass.

Often referred to as the unofficial“fifth Major”, the event once again features a star-studded field competing for a purse of $25 million. The tournament has recently leaned into that reputation with its latest marketing campaign declaring that“March is going to be a Major.”

It can be argued that the golfing season is still not balanced with all four Majors all fitting in between The Masters in April until The Open in July. It is still a disappointment to the writer that in non-Ryder Cup years, it always seems that the season is short, but that is for others to comment on and decide.

The Ladies European Tour continues its Australian swing with the Women's Australian Open, the third of four events in the region before the Tour moves to the United States in early April for the $4 million Aramco Championship in Las Vegas.
