Türkiye Beats Serbia to Advance in World Cup Qualifiers

(MENAFN) The Türkiye National Basketball Team defeated Serbia 94-86 on Monday to secure a spot in the second round of the FIBA 2027 World Cup European Qualifiers.

In the Group C matchup at Istanbul’s Turkcell Basketball Development Center, Türkiye led 28-21 after the first quarter, while Serbia edged the second quarter 23-20, leaving the halftime score at 48-44 in favor of the hosts. Türkiye regained momentum in the third quarter with a 28-19 run and held on despite losing the final quarter 23-18.

Tarik Biberovic starred for Türkiye, scoring 21 points along with five assists and five rebounds. Omer Yurtseven contributed 17 points, Sehmus Hazer 15, and Cedi Osman 13. Serbia’s top scorer was Aleksa Avramovic with 16 points and nine assists, followed by Ognjen Dobric with 14 points and Dejan Davidovac with 12. Yurtseven was disqualified after committing five fouls.

The victory keeps Türkiye unbeaten at the top of Group C with four wins, while Serbia suffered their second defeat.
